Holistic Approach for Successful Integration of Migrants

The main purpose of the project was to enhance the capacity of institutions, organisations and individuals working with migrants to facilitate migrant integration.

Through participation in the project, professionals and volunteers in such fields as education, health and social care, employment and humanitarian aid developed specific knowledge in the area of refugee and migrant support and protection.

As a result, a successful model of a holistic approach for the integration of migrants into their host society (in this case, Croatian society) was created.

Project Goal

Due to an increase in the number of asylum seekers and people being granted international protection in the region, the project's main goal was to encourage and facilitate coordination between civil organisations and governmental institutions working to support such migrants. Through this a unified, comparable and professionally-supported comprehensive approach to integration would be formed.

How it works

Key activities of the project were as follows:

  1. The creation of an overview - and collection of specific examples - of good practice in partner countries;
  2. Research and preparation for a pilot education and training (E&T) programme for those working with migrants, and a coordination network of migration and integration experts;
  3. Training of specialists;
  4. Delivery of pilot E&T programme and establishment of network;
  5. Evaluation and adjustment of E&T programme;
  6. Information dissemination around the programme and its objectives / achievements, to allow for replication elsewhere.
