Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Ylva Johansson, was in Australia this week, from 18 to 21 March, to strengthen the ongoing EU-Australia collaboration on security matters. She met with Australia's Minister for Home Affairs, with the eSafety Commissioner, and the Attorney General.

On 14 March, the European Parliament and the Council reached a provisional political agreement on the Commission's proposal to update the Regulation on import, export and transit of firearms for civilian use. The revised rules will enhance security and address firearms trafficking.

On 12 March 2024, the Commission adopted a Communication assessing the progress made in the area of migration and asylum. Committed to create a sustainable EU framework for migration management, it has introduced reforms with the new Pact while working on operational actions to support EU countries.
