Collaboration with countries

Africa

Cooperation on home affairs is an integral part of the EU-Africa partnership. The EU has been running an intense and broad dialogue with Africa on migration and mobility at a bilateral, regional and continental level.

Canada

Cooperation on migration and asylum, home affairs and trade are important elements of the strategic relationship with Canada and the EU.

Central Asia

The EU has been engaged with Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, since the early years of their independence.

China and India

Priority areas in cooperation with China and India include political and economic relations, people-to-people contacts and increased strategic cooperation, including on home affairs issues.

Eastern Partnership

The Eastern Partnership is a joint policy initiative to enhance relations with the six Eastern neighbours Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, including in the field of migration and home affairs.

EU candidate countries

EU candidate countries must adopt the entire body of EU law (acquis), including the area of home affairs.

Latin America and the Caribbean

The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) gathers all 33 Latin American and Caribbean countries in the region. It is the EU's official counterpart for strategic partnership.

Silk route countries

The EU cooperates in various areas of home affairs and migration with Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq and Bangladesh, signing separate agreements and establishing EU delegations.

Russia

Cooperation on home affairs is a key component of the strategic relationship between the EU and Russia based on a Road Map for the Common Space of Freedom, Security and Justice.

Southern Mediterranean

EU cooperation with the Southern Neighbourhood takes place in the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) and includes ten partner countries: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine*, Syria and Tunisia.

United Kingdom

The Partnership Agreement on the future relationship between the EU and the UK includes cooperation in law enforcement and judicial cooperation.

United States

Cooperation on home affairs is an important part of the strategic relationship between the EU and the United States framed by the New Transatlantic Agenda.
