Ukraine becomes a new Observer country in the European Migration Network

On August 2, EU Commissioner Home Affairs Ylva Johansson visited Ukraine. Within the framework of the visit, the Commissioner held a meeting with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Denys Monastyrksyy, the Chairwoman of the State Migration Service of Ukraine Mrs. Nataliia Naumenko and the Chairman of the State Service for Emergency Situations of Ukraine Sergey Kruk.

The aim of the visit was to help assess the needs for people fleeing the war, as well as for those going back to Ukraine.

In addition, during the meeting, the Administrative Arrangement establishing co-operation between the European Commission and the State Migration Service of Ukraine in the European Migration Network were signed. The practical implementation of the document, in addition to creating favorable conditions for co-operation in the field of migration, will have a positive impact on the development of good-neighbor relations between Ukraine and the EU MS in general.

At the same time, given today’s realities, multidimensional co-operation between Ukraine and the EU within the framework of the European Migration Network (EMN) will facilitate the exchange of experience on a wide range of issues, in particular in the field of asylum and migration policy and, on all aspects of migration. This will make a significant contribution to the development of migration management systems of all sides in the future.
