Call for participants: RAN REHABILITATION meeting - Basics of P/CVE Rehabilitation Work (online mini-training), 09 November 2023

RAN REHABILITATION

This web-based training will be held in English and will take place via WebEx Events on 09 November 2023, 09.30 – 12.30 CET

Context

Rehabilitation work in the context of P/CVE is a complex task that involves a variety of different settings – ranging from voluntary accompaniment in a non-criminal context to prison work and post-release reintegration and rehabilitation. Each of these settings comes with its own specific challenges. However, some basic principles and challenges maintain high relevancy throughout all settings and contexts of rehabilitation work. These include questions such as:

  • What makes a case for rehabilitation in P/CVE?
  • How do we understand and conceptualise radicalisation and tertiary prevention in relation to open and security settings?
  • What are the different roles and functions of rehabilitation practitioners (including professional tasks and boundaries)?
  • How can I cooperate with other actors and institutions to achieve the best possible outcome?
  • How can I best comprehend and assess a case holistically (e.g., including a gender dimension), including risks for the client and their needs, as well as public security concerns?

This online mini-training aims at providing practitioners who are relatively new to the field of P/CVE with a chance to obtain a basic understanding of P/CVE rehabilitation work as well as its core principles and challenges. It serves as an opportunity to learn about and exchange opinions on different aspects of rehabilitation, including the rehabilitation process itself, cooperation between different practitioner profiles involved, and risk and needs assessments to guide their work. In addressing the abovementioned issues, the event will build on the lessons of the RAN Rehabilitation Manual.

Beyond sharing existing knowledge and facilitating exchanges between participants, this training is set up so as to empower participants to ask the right questions and continue their learning journey in a targeted manner. The training will focus on the topics outlined above through a mixture of brief presentations and interactive exercises in small groups to foster a deep learning experience.

Target audience

Practitioners new to the field of P/CVE and/or the field of rehabilitation, especially coming from exit programmes or with a background in prison and probation work, social work, psychology and psychiatry, law enforcement, or the municipal level. Participation will be limited to 20 participants maximum, to ensure enough room for engagement.
