In this Special Edition of the RAN Practitioners Update therefore, we take a brief look at what was discussed at the RAN Practitioners Plenary event, as well as provide an update on the RAN in the Western Balkans project.

We are pleased to announce that the registrations for the RAN Webinar "The challenges of anti-authorities extremism and new protests for police” on 5 December (9.30 - 11.00 CET), are now open.

This Update will therefore take a look at one topic which is increasingly of concern to practitioners: violent left wing, anarchist and anti-establishment extremism.

We are presently looking for P/CVE practitioners working with families and communities who support individuals who perceive (institutional, social or interpersonal) discrimination, such as social and youth workers, community workers, local authorities, and/or community police officers.

We are currently looking for suitable participants for the RAN Mental Health Working Group meeting on “The ‘how’ and ‘why’ of hate crimes and the implications for mental health practitioners”.

In this issue of the Update, we take a look at the online radicalisation challenge, through a new film, the latest episode of RAN Reporters, a recently-published paper and an upcoming event.

The objective of the meeting is to spur exchange among evaluators and practitioners and to learn from recent innovative approaches. Participants will explore the behind-the-scenes working and cooperation mechanisms between evaluators and practice implementers.

This edition focusses on the radicalisation challenge in education settings. It includes content on the state of play for P/CVE in schools today, the role of teachers and current pedagogical approaches, and the challenge posed by problematic informal and nonformal education in schools.

This edition focusses on the challenge posed by violent left wing and anarchist extremism (VLWAE), including how conspiracy narratives have fostered anti-government sentiments, and how VLWAE and VRWE groups have exploited the COVID-19 pandemic to turn people to violence.
