There are several ways of joining the European Commission's department for Migration and Home Affairs, depending on your profile and type of employment.
Regular staff is not recruited directly by DG HOME. Employees are usually selected through the European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO).
Besides permanent positions, EPSO also hires contract and temporary agents, as well as interim staff on a temporary basis for specialised tasks. Detailed information on recruitment conditions, eligibility, and open competitions is available on the EPSO website.
Additionally, the Commission offers 5-months long paid traineeship which is open to all EU citizens, regardless of age. A limited number of places are also allocated to non-EU nationals.
