The conference is dedicated to launching a new initiative in the field of prevention of radicalisation at EU level - the EU Knowledge Hub. The threat landscape in prevention of radicalisation will be discussed, all with a view to understanding how the activities of the EU Knowledge Hub can support efforts to prevent radicalisation for Member States and priority third countries.

Stepping up efforts at EU level to prevent radicalisation

Main actors and partners of the EU Knowledge Hub

Radicalisation that leads to terrorism is a phased and complex process. In this process, an individual or a group embraces a radical ideology or belief that accepts, uses, or condones violence, including acts of terrorism, to reach a specific political or ideological purpose.

The EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation will break down silos between practitioners, policymakers and researchers working on prevention across Europe and in priority third countries.

The Hub will help Member States and priority third countries to develop and implement policies and strategies based on shared knowledge and expertise. It aims to enable policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to collaborate in a new way at the EU level to address the challenges posed by radicalisation.

Activities and services of the EU Knowledge Hub

In recent years, the threats posed by radicalisation have intensified and grown increasingly complex. The lines between different types of violent extremism are blurring, as are the boundaries between the online and offline dimensions. Technologies are evolving rapidly too, expanding the opportunities to promote violent ideologies across borders.

Regardless of whether a Member State faces an imminent threat or is aiming to ensure its preparedness, it is essential to have relevant structures in place and further develop policies and practices to respond to these threats and prevent radicalisation. EU collaboration in this field channeled through the Knowledge Hub will support Member States and priority third countries in addressing this challenge.
