Call for Participants: RAN Rehabilitation meeting on Innovative Evaluation of Tertiary Prevention, 10-11 November 2022

We are looking for suitable participants for the RAN Rehabilitation Working Group meeting on “Innovative Evaluation of Tertiary Prevention”

Background and aim of this event

Evaluation remains an important and difficult topic in tertiary prevention work. Motives for conducting evaluations of rehabilitation programmes, approaches and settings vary: legitimisation purposes and accountability, attempted proof of effectiveness, and/or the process-oriented desire for continuous development and improvement of approaches.

In recent years impact-orientation and process-oriented formative evaluations have become increasingy significant. Evaluations are often understood as opportunities for learning, and in a fast-paced work-field such as P/CVE. Such learning may well be accomplished through parallel evaluation efforts that offer opportunities for adaptation and change on short notice, rather than only ex post efforts. One key element for effective evaluation practice is trust (or at least respect) between evaluators and implementers.

Therefore, one key theme of this WG meeting will be the behind-the-scenes working and cooperation mechanisms between evaluators and practice implementers to identify crucial elements for successful and respectful evaluation in tertiary prevention work.

This REHAB WG meeting will focus on the following questions:

• Thinking outside the box: Which types of innovative evaluation designs/approaches exist for tertiary prevention?
• Which structural conditions are necessary for constructive practitioner-evaluator cooperation on evaluation (timeframes, evaluation funding, etc.)?
• Which specific steps and processes are necessary to ensure an efficient and trust-based working process for both sides of an evaluation?
• Which elements are necessary to make an evaluation relevant to practice?
• How to successfully implement the outcomes and recommendations of an evaluation in daily practice?
• How should evaluation results be published and processed (e.g. in databases, target-specific workshops and dissemination formats) to achieve maximum impact for all sides?

The objective of the meeting is to spur exchange among evaluators and practitioners and to learn from recent innovative approaches.

Practitioners we are looking for are:

Rehabilitation practitioners (Exit, derad, probation) managers of rehabilitation facilities/approaches and evaluation experts with experience in tertiary P/CVE work.

We are especially looking for pairings of evaluators and practitioners who have worked on both sides of an evaluation of a specific intervention.

Please note that due to limited available spots, participation cannot be guaranteed. You will be contacted individually by RAN Staff after the survey response deadline.

Deadline

If you are interested in participating, kindly respond to the survey as soon as possible, but at the latest by 19th October. We actively encourage early responses, which facilitate invitations and travel arrangements.

We will invite participants based on this information. As we only have a limited number of places available for this meeting, we unfortunately cannot guarantee participation.
