Call for participants: RAN POL Online guided tour for police officers on right-wing extremism and accelerationism: how can the police be prepared online 20-24 March 2023

20 March (13.00-16.00 CET) and 24 March (09.00-12.00 CET). This digital meeting will take place via WebEx.

RAN POL

On behalf of the RAN POL chairs Marzena Kordaczuk-Wąs and Luc Van Der Taelen, we are asking for your support. We are currently looking for suitable police experts with an expertise in modern-day online and offline right-wing extremism and police capacities and responses to right wing extremism online and offline.

Background and aim of this meeting

Right-wing extremism keeps posing a threat. The online dimension and especially the networks of lone actors, remain a crucial challenge topic for police officers. At the same time, it is important to acknowledge that it is not a separate world. Extremists operate online and offline repeatedly. Therefore, police officers need to stay up-to-date on extremist ideologies, the effects of these ideologies online and offline and police measures both online and offline again.

The first day, police officers will have an online safari on right-wing extremism and accelerationism. Police officers will receive an update and reality check on ideology in an expert session. We will zoom in on ‘what is going on within online groups and their activities? What role does online play in radicalisation and recruitment?’ On the second day, with the information from the expert session on Monday, police officers will be fully aware of the core of the problem and will discuss what this means for police preparedness online and offline (and having the right toolbox).

Please suggest a police expert with an expertise on modern-day online and offline right-wing extremism and/or expertise in police capacities and responses to right wing extremism online and offline.
