2. The Agency acts as a resource for EU Member States in the field of international protection, with the ability to provide practical, legal, technical, advisory and operational assistance in many formats, as well as training. The aim of the Agency's activities is to enable convergence in the assessment of applications for international protection across EU Member States and to harmonise asylum practice.

3. Among other tasks the Agency

  • facilitates, coordinates and strengthens practical cooperation among EU Member States on their asylum and reception systems;
  • gathers and analyses qualitative and quantitative information on the situation of asylum in EU Member States and on the implementation of the CEAS including monitoring the operational and technical application of the CEAS;
  • develops operational standards, indicators, guidelines and best practices in regard to the implementation of the CEAS;
  • drafts common country of origin reports and develops common analysis and guidance notes on countries of origin;
  • deploys liaison officers to EU Member states, sets up and deploys asylum support teams and an asylum reserve pool for EU Member States under pressure;
  • assists with relocation and resettlement activities;
  • supports EU Member States in their cooperation with third countries in matters related to the external dimension of the CEAS, including through the deployment of liaison officers to third countries.

(For more information see Art. 2 of the EUAA-Regulation).

4. The EUAA cooperates closely with the asylum and immigration authorities of the EU Member States and with the European Commission. However, the Agency does not replace the national asylum or reception authorities, nor does it have any powers in relation to the decisions of EU Member States' asylum authorities on individual applications for international protection. 5. The EUAA cooperates with the Union bodies, offices and agencies which carry out activities in the field of international protection and reception with the aim to creating synergies and avoiding duplication of efforts as well as with international organisations, in particular the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). For more information see Articles 4, 37 and 38 of the EUAA-Regulation. 6. For more information on the EUAA, see the website of the EUAA.
