The annual Projects to Policy Seminar (PPS) took place on 10 and 11 June in Brussels to gather all the newly begun research projects in the area of civil security for society. This year was a particularly busy edition with over 160 participants drawn from almost 40 new projects.
The workshop 'Innovative Approaches to Combating the Trafficking of Goods' was hosted by the Commission in Brussels, bringing together over 70 participants to address innovative European solutions in the fight against the illicit trafficking of goods, focusing on wildlife and intangible assets.
On 17-18 June, the Commission showcased how innovative EU-funded European technologies will help European law enforcement authorities to fight cross-border organised crime and terrorism with faster, more accurate and interoperable identification and detection technology.
On 5-6 May, participants from law enforcement entities, customs, forensics, academia, civil society, Horizon Europe projects, EU agencies and institutions came together in Brussels for a CERIS workshop on illicit drugs. The event was organised by the Commission and the European Union Drugs Agency.
On 12 March, a CERIS workshop explored how innovative European technologies can strengthen wildfire prevention, preparedness and response – and how innovation procurement can bring them into operation.
On 5 and 6 March, CERIS co-organised a conference on „Borderless Border Management“ in Narva, Estonia, right on the Schengen external border with Russia. More than 200 attendees from 20 countries came together to discuss solutions that will directly impact the security of Europe and Estonia.
Held on 20-21 November 2025, the meeting brought together 54 of its members to assess ongoing work, set strategic goals, and plan the future direction of CERIS activities, confirming its role as a European platform for integrating security research, innovation, policy, and practical application.
On 19 November 2025, CERIS co-organised the annual event of the EU Innovation Hub for Internal Security, gathering representatives from EU institutions and agencies, research and technology organisations, internal security practitioners and academic experts in the field of security in the EU.
From 6 to 8 October 2025, Athens became a hub for disaster resilience innovation and collaboration. The conference brought together over 250 experts, policymakers, researchers, and practitioners from across Europe and beyond.
On 23 and 24 September 2025, the European Commission, under the Community for European Research and Innovation for Security (CERIS), alongside the European Association for Biometrics (EAB), co-organised the “Biometrics in Action for Border Management & Fight Against Crime and Terrorism” workshop.
