Organisation
The Anti-Discrimination Office Styria was founded in 2012 by the Styrian government and the city of Graz to help anyone affected by discrimination. It is a single point of contact, clearing, advising and monitoring office for all people living in Styria including institutions und organisations working with anti-discrimination (network partners) as well as for politicians and administrators.
The grounds for discrimination are gender, skin colour, ethnic or social heritage, genetic features, language, religion, ideology, political or other views, being a part of a specific ethnic minority, wealth, birth, disability, age, or sexual orientation.
Type of Organisation: NGO
Project description
The Anti-Discrimination Office Styria developed 2017 the first mobile application against hate postings and hate crimes, BanHate-App. Via the BanHate app, online hate postings from the entire German-speaking area as well as offline hate crimes can be anonymously reported to the Anti- Discrimination Office Styria for initial legal assessment, documentation and prosecution.
Therefore, it is necessary to inform exactly about the crime, the crime scene/the social media platform and prove it with footage or screenshots. The report will be checked by the team of the Anti-Discrimination Office Styria and pass it on the responsible authority. In addition, the app will show the progress all the time, so that it is possible to be informed about what is happening.
