New EMN-OECD joint inform on civic training as an important tool for integrating third-country nationals

The new EMN-OECD joint inform reveals how civic training programmes across 22 EMN Member and Observer Countries play a crucial role in integrating third-country nationals through tailored courses on social, cultural, and political participation.

Effective integration of migrants into the host society is a key challenge and a precondition to successful migration management. This inform covers how 25 EMN Member and Observer Countries implement civic training programmes and the programmes’ role in the effective integration of third-country national in their host countries.

The inform provides insights into the management, funding, and content of these courses, as well as participation requirements, scheduling accommodations, and the use of digital methods. Additionally, it discusses the evaluation practices used to measure the effectiveness of these programmes, offering a detailed look at their role in integrating third-country nationals.

The scope of the inform focuses on third-country na­tionals already resident in EMN Member and Observer Countries. However, an introduction to the host country’s society and norms can start prior to arrival to prepare migrants for their first years in the host country and set appropriate expectations.
