Europol signs a working arrangement with Egypt

Two flags are shown side by side: on the left, the flag of the EU, on the right, the flag of Egypt.

On 9 April, Commissioner Brunner was present at the signing ceremony of the Working Arrangement between Europol and Egypt, which will enhance law enforcement cooperation to fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, migrant smuggling, and organised crime. This landmark agreement, the first of its kind in North Africa, will enhance law enforcement cooperation between the two sides of the Mediterranean.

As part of his mission to Egypt, Commissioner Brunner participated in the 2nd Ministerial Conference of the Khartoum Process in Cairo, which promotes cooperation among countries along the migration routes between the Horn of Africa and Europe.

The process aims to promote political cooperation, combat human trafficking and migrant smuggling, and facilitate dialogue between countries.

Commissioner Brunner also met with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, to discuss migration management cooperation, including legal migration, talent partnerships, and counter-smuggling efforts. He also met the Minister of Interior, Mahmoud Tawfik, to exchange views on cooperation on return and readmission, counterterrorism, and cooperation with EU agencies.
