The European Migration Network (EMN) is richer for two new countries. Georgia and Moldova joined the network as non-voting observers. This is the first time countries outside the European Economic Area become part of EMN. Georgia and Moldova are important partners of the European Union, with significant achievements in the area of migration, notably the visa-free regime.

How it happened
- 2018 and 2019: Georgia and Moldova expressed interest to join EMN as non-voting observers, funding their own participation.
- March 2021: The Commission signed working arrangements with Georgia and Moldova to join EMN establishing the conditions of the administrative cooperation.
A new perspective
After the signing, Directorate General of DG HOME, Monique Pariat highlighted the positive impacts of Georgia and Moldova joining the EMN:
“Having Georgia and Moldova as a part of the European Migration Network will enable us to share our European good practices in managing migration while getting a better understanding of migration from the Caucasus and Eastern neighborhood perspective”.

As part of EMN, Georgia and Moldova will:
- participate in the exchange of information in the field of migration and asylum
- benefit from the expertise of the network in developing their migration management systems
- inform their general public about EU migration developments
