Description

On 6-7 March 2024, the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation organised the first in-person training session on strategic communications for participants from local authorities. The training aimed to connect local action with wider P/CVE efforts by empowering local authorities with the skills needed to develop and implement strategic communication campaigns that foster social cohesion and contribute to prevent radicalisation and (violent) extremism at the community level.

The training provided a grounding in current developments in the information ecosystem and how these relate to the processes of radicalisation, followed by an exploration of the power of
strategic communications for P/CVE and the role the local level can play in this regard. The training then looked at practical methods and tools, exploring audience engagement, narrative development and how best to communicate in a crisis, to foster community resilience and bolster P/CVE efforts. This Conclusions Paper summarises the key takeaways and main discussion points of the event and concludes with a set of final recommendations.
