This is an online meeting that will take place on 29 and 30 March (both afternoon) 2022
For the RAN C&N Working Group meeting on ‘Antisemitism as a part of almost all extremist ideologies and narratives’, we are looking for first-line practitioners, communications experts and academics who are familiar or have experience with the topic of antisemitism in relation to different extremist ideologies or conspiracy narratives.
We are also looking for participants who would like to actively contribute to the meeting by speaking in a panel or chairing a break-out session.
As the history and contemporary forms of antisemitism differ across Europe, we encourage people from all EU Member States to reply to this call.

Topic of the meeting
Antisemitism is present in almost all current extremist ideologies, ranging from left-wing, right-wing to Islamist extremism, as well as in many conspiracy narratives. Therefore, we want to dedicate a C&N Working Group meeting to explore this topic and look for ways to address it within the field of P/CVE.
The meeting will first place (the rise of) contemporary antisemitism in a historical perspective, providing context to subsequent discussion on how antisemitism relates to and manifests itself across different extremist ideologies and conspiracy narratives. The meeting will also explore how antisemitic tropes, narratives and symbols can be recognised, and will seek to identify potential ways to address antisemitism both online and offline.
The meeting builds on the outcomes of previous RAN meetings and papers on this topic:
- C&N meeting on ‘Conspiracy Narratives: Current State and Future Expectations for P/CVE in Europe’ (November 2021),
- C&N meeting on ‘The Impact of Conspiracy Narratives on Violent RWE and LWE Narratives’ (November 2020),
- Specialised Paper ‘Conspiracy theories and right-wing extremism – Insights and recommendations for P/CVE’ (2021),
- Specialised Paper ‘Far-right extremists’ use of humour’ (2021),
- Specialised Paper ‘Lone Actors in Digital Environments’ (October 2021).
Questions that will be discussed during the meeting include, but are not limited to:
- What are the historical root causes of contemporary antisemitism?
- How does antisemitism manifest itself across different extremist ideologies? What are their key similarities and differences?
- What consequences or implications does this have for P/CVE work? Does this differ depending on the extremist ideology (for example left-wing, right-wing, Islamist)?
- How does antisemitism present itself in different conspiracy narratives?
- How can elements of antisemitism be recognised online and offline?
