Last Thursday, 19 May, the European Commission co-organised an information session together with the Mission of Ukraine to the EU focusing on how to further support people fleeing the war in Ukraine.

During the event, Vsevolod Chentsov, Ambassador of Ukraine to the EU discussed the current situation in his country and outlined the importance of EU’ s support on the ground in Ukraine and EU countries.
Event highlights
The first panel discussion was devoted to temporary protection for people fleeing the war. Beate Gminder, Deputy Director General for Migration and Home Affair, explained the rights under Temporary Protection Directive, insisting on the importance of registration.
The second panel focused on Trafficking in Human Beings, with the participation of Diane Schmitt, the EU Anti-trafficking Coordinator. The EU’s response to ensure the protection of the most vulnerable was highlighted, with special attention to the new Anti-Trafficking Plan to protect people fleeing the war in Ukraine.
Audience members, many of them Ukrainian beneficiaries of temporary protection, asked questions to experts after the discussion. The event was closed by a special guest appearance – the former Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko.
