Want to improve the effectiveness of alternative and counter narrative campaigns?

Join RAN practitioners for a live webinar on the GAMMMA+ model

The RAN Communication and Narratives working group (RAN C&N) has promoted the GAMMMA+ model since December 2017 as a practical guideline for carrying out effective alternative and counter narrative campaigns in the prevention or countering of violent extremism (PCVE). The GAMMMA+ model comprises the following key elements: Goal, Audience, Message, Messenger, Media, Action + Monitoring and Evaluation. It combines key elements and lessons learned from RAN C&N meetings with an overview of relevant research. The model aims to help practitioners to increase the impact of their campaign, be it online and offline.

GAMMMA+ also addresses the risks of well-intended campaigns doing harm by entering a field of political or social polarisation or conflict without being aware of the potential unintended negative consequences this may have.

Alexander Ritzmann (RAN C&N co-chair |Brandenburg Institute for Society and Security (BIGS)) and Lieke Wouterse (RAN Staff) will present the GAMMMA+ model. They will focus on each element of the model to explain the planning, implementation and evaluation of alternative and counter-narrative campaigns. Every element will be illustrated through a fictional example of a campaign. At the end of the webinar, they will answer questions from the audience.

Target audience:

First-line practitioners, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) who are not yet familiar with the GAMMMA+ model and who want to know more about setting up an effective alternative or counternarrative campaign for the prevention or countering of violent extremism (PCVE).
