15 May 2018Renaissance Brussels Hotel, Belgium
Conference overview
This event will mark the 10 year anniversary of the establishment of the European Migration Network. The conference will welcome high-level speakers from a diverse range of European and international organisations. In a balanced debate, the speakers will share their perspectives on migration and asylum policy, reflecting on lessons learned over the past decade and how these experiences can shape the future of migration policy and practice. The speakers will address and debate the following issues:
- Migration – from crisis management to future-proofed asylum and migration policies
- Why migration can only be managed by working together
- Building stronger partnerships with third countries on migration
- Public opinion and trust in EU migration policy
- The next 10 years in European migration policy: seizing opportunities and avoiding pitfalls?
The 2017 EMN Annual Report on Migration and Asylum, which provides the most recent developments and latest statistics across all migration and asylum fields, will be launched at this event. A new publication, "Understanding Migration in the European Union. Insights from the European Migration Network 2008-2018" will also be made available to participants. This report will highlight key developments in migration and asylum over the past decade and explore the EMN’s role in providing up-to-date, objective, reliable and comparable information on migration and asylum, and its impact on policymaking in the European Union and public debate.
Who will attend the conference?
Senior policymakers from the European Commission and the European Parliament, European Agencies, Member State Permanent Representatives, researchers, members of IGOs and NGOs and other members of civil society will join the EMN National Contact Points at the EMN’s 10 Year Anniversary conference.
