EMN collects, analyses and publishes factual information on migration and asylum issues.
Austria
In 2003, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Country Office in Vienna was designated by the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior (FMI) as the National Contact Point Austria in the European Migration Network (AT EMN NCP). Since then, the Research and Migration Law Department of the IOM Country Office Vienna ensures the implementation of activities in Austria in accordance with the Annual Work Programme of the EMN. IOM fulfils its tasks as the AT EMN NCP in cooperation with the EMN Steering Board Member of the FMI. It aims at assisting Austrian policy makers in meeting the challenges of migration management, and its goal is to provide an advanced understanding of migration issues, encourage social and economic development through migration, and uphold the human dignity and well-being of migrants.
In order to better embed the AT EMN NCP in the national migration and asylum context, a National Steering Committee has been established, which consists of representatives of the FMI, the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection, the Austrian Integration Fund, Statistics Austria, the Danube University Krems, the University of Vienna, the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, the Chamber of Labour, the Federation of Austrian Industries, and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development. It holds meetings once a year and it is involved in various ways (conferences, studies, etc.) in the activities of the AT EMN NCP throughout the year.
