Note(s)

1. The Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) replaces the former European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) and was introduced by the Lisbon Treaty as an integral part of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP).
2. As in the preceding Treaties, the CSDP remains a fundamentally intergovernmental issue.
3. The European Agenda on Migration of May 2015 envisages CSDP operations in the Mediterranean to dismantle traffickers' networks and fight smuggling of migrants in accordance with international law.
