On 30 April, the first ministerial conference on the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum took place in Ghent, following the European Parliament's endorsement of the Pact, on 10 April. This is a major step forward in tackling the migration and asylum challenges faced by the EU today.

On 4 October 2023, Member States reached an agreement on the proposed Regulation for situations of crisis and force majeure in the field of migration and asylum. A key element of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, this agreement paves the way to start the negotiations.

The European Commission welcomes the successful political agreement reached by the Member States at the Home Affairs Council on 8 June on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum. This agreement offers a good foundation for negotiations between the European Parliament and the Council.
