Survivors of child sexual abuse raise their voice about the need to protect children in the EU

18 November marks the European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse.

1 out 5 children in the Europe suffer from sexual abuse. The sexual abuse of minors is a hideous crime that has life-long consequences for survivors.

For too long, victims of child sexual violence have been silenced, stigmatised, and shamed, while abusers have been exempted from justice.

Children are the most vulnerable group in society. Some of the survivors are not able to denounce their abusers as children, as they only learn about their sexual abuse as adults.

Patricia is a survivor of child sexual abuse, she has shared her testimonial to help raise awareness about this horrible crime. After being silenced for 30 years, Patricia now takes a vocal stance in fight against child sexual abuse and expresses her gratitude for the efforts made to raise awareness.

Scharliina, as a survivor from child sexual abuse herself, calls for our responsibility as adults to protect children - it shouldn’t be up to the children to protect themselves.
