RAN Webinar

We are pleased to announce that the registrations for the RAN Webinar on ‘Trends and developments in Violent Right-Wing Extremism – The concept of gender in VRWE movements’ on 07 July (10.00h - 11.30h CEST) are now open.

This webinar, which will be held in English, will expand on the recognition that a certain concept of masculinity, and of gender more broadly, is inextricably linked to (violent) right-wing extremist (VRWE) ideology and that this is a relevant access point for P/CVE practitioners, from primary to tertiary prevention. The webinar will highlight the overlap between strong patriarchal beliefs in traditional gender roles, connections between masculinity and violence, concepts of masculinity and femininity in relation to a right-wing worldview and the connection between anti-feminist, anti-gender and VRWE ideologies, including the question of what motivates women to support misogynist movements.

The webinar builds on previous RAN Practitioners events and publications, such as the transnational dimension of VRWE (RAN webinar ‘Right-wing extremism: Local lessons and transnational dimensions’, March 2021), the lone actor phenomenon (RAN cross-cutting thematic event ‘Lone actors – jointly taking stock of recent developments and combining knowledge’, April 2021), as well as manifestations of VRWE on the local level and how to counter them (RAN FC&S Meeting ‘Violent right-wing extremism in communities’, November 2021).

Presentations will be provided by Elisabeth Hell (Violence Prevention Network) and Olivier Cauberghs (Textgain).

The goal of the webinar is to disseminate the experts’ knowledge on the subject to a broader audience of practitioners. There will be some possibility for Q&A with the experts.
