RAN Practitioners Update 91 | December 2021 - Special Edition

RAN Practitioners Update 91 Special Edition

2021 was always set to be a momentous year for the Radicalisation Awareness Network. The year marked the 10-year anniversary of the network’s foundation and would bring together Working Group Leads, Practitioners, Researchers and Policy Makers, both past and present, to reflect and look ahead.

However, what should have been a year of commemoration and reflection has also taken on even greater importance due to the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had huge repercussions not only for P/CVE, but for communities and societies across Europe. Indeed, the pandemic has only exacerbated and accelerated the P/CVE trends and issues that RAN and its practitioners have been tackling in recent years, including the proliferation of disinformation and conspiracy narratives, increased digitalisation and the emergence of more extreme and violent narratives.

As Europe continues to battle the pandemic, RAN Practitioners has used 2021 to not only reflect on the challenges brought about by COVID, but also plot an optimistic path forward for its network of practitioners. In keeping with this, this final Update of 2021 features the fifth and final film, in a series of films on the 10-year anniversary. The Update also includes the four other films in the series and a special edition Spotlight magazine.

As we look ahead to next year there is much to look forward to. The insights that were shared by you, RAN practitioners, during the RAN Plenary event and RAN Steering Board meeting were captured and have informed the design and planning of RAN Practitioners activity for next year, including Working Group meetings, study visits, webinars and much more. A calendar of events will be shared and made available in the coming weeks.
