The Portuguese Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) presented the first strategic plan for learning Portuguese as a foreign language for the 2024 - 2027 period. A collaboration protocol was also signed between AIMA and partner public entities - the National Agency for Qualification and Vocational Education (ANQEP), Camões-Institute of Cooperation and Language, the Directorate-General of School Administration (DGAE), the Directorate-General of Education (DGE), the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES), the Directorate-General for School Establishments (DGEST), the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, and the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP) - on the development and operationalisation of the plan.
The plan document has 5 strategic axes, 39 measures and 68 activities, and integrates two 2-year operational plans. It was created collaboratively, gathering proposals from a dedicated working group, a public consultation, and contributions from approximately 80 public and private entities.
Among the main initiatives included in the plan there is strong emphasis on the use of digital tools and the development of an immersive training promotion project in the area of sports practice.
