Welcome to the 16th edition of the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation newsletter. As we continue our work through 2026, the Hub remains a unified front, bridging policy, research, and practice to tackle evolving threats across Europe.

This issue highlights a dynamic start to the season, featuring key activities that range from strengthening PCVE cooperation with Ukrainian stakeholders to advancing early warning systems in the Western Balkans and equipping young practitioners in Brussels with cutting-edge communication skills. Our expert contributors delve into the surge of nihilistic extremist violence online, where status is sought through performative harm, and introduce the DISRUPT Framework, a whole-of-society methodology designed to counter influence operations even when content remains below legal thresholds.

In this month’s portrait, we sit down with Joana de Deus Pereira, a Senior Researcher from Thematic Panel 7 (Global and Geopolitical Factors) whose professional journey spans oil security in Nigeria to leading immersive EU thematic trainings across thirty countries. She shares a unique perspective on the "politics of fear," the vital role of evidence-based research in the 2020 Agenda, and why the most effective P/CVE insights often come from the most unexpected detours.

We also explore restorative justice approaches to repair gender power imbalances, the role of ethnopsychiatry in addressing the "wandering souls" of displaced lineages, and a reality check on the exploitation of gaming ecosystems. Finally, this edition reflects on the maturation of evaluation in PCVE, moving from a bureaucratic hurdle to a shared opportunity for continuous learning and accountability.

We hope these insights support your work in building safer and more resilient communities.
