Lithuania: Over 450 people displaced from Ukraine complete free language courses

The International Organization for Migration in Lithuania (IOM Lithuania) completed another round of Lithuanian language courses for people displaced from Ukraine. Over the past 2 years 451 participants have joined these courses, aimed at helping refugees integrate into society and access better job opportunities. The courses are funded by the State Secretariat for Migration and are free for participants, ensuring accessibility for all.

Demand for language training among people displaced from Ukraine in Lithuania has surged, with 43% now seeking courses - this figure previously stood at 8%. In the latest round, over 70% of participants were advanced learners and 27% were beginners.

From 2026 Ukrainians working in the service sector in Lithuania will be obliged to demonstrate at least a basic level of Lithuanian language proficiency, so these courses will be essential to promoting fulfillment of this requirement.
