How criminals profit from the COVID-19 pandemic

New Europol report on latest developments of COVID-19 on the criminal landscape in the EU

While governments across Europe are intensifying their efforts to combat the spread of virus by enacting various measures to support public health systems, safeguard the economy and to ensure public order and safety, criminals are quick to exploit the situation to their benefit.

The latest EUROPOL’s situational report “Pandemic profiteering: how criminals exploit the COVID-19 crisis” analyses the developments in 4 main crime areas: cybercrime, fraud, counterfeit and substandard goods and organised property crime. It is based on information Europol receives from the EU Member States on a 24/7 basis and intends to support Member States’ law enforcement authorities in their work.
