In a series of bilateral meetings, Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, visited several EU Member States to discuss key priorities for the year ahead in migration, internal security, and border management.

On 9 January, Commissioner Brunner was in Warsaw, Poland, where he met with the Polish Minister of Interior, Tomasz Siemoniak, to discuss the EU's priorities for internal security and migration during the Polish Council Presidency, which runs until 30 June 2025. He also visited the European Border and Coast Guard Agency's (Frontex) headquarters, meeting with Executive Director Hans Leijtens to discuss Frontex priorities, and met with the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski, to explore the role of municipal authorities in implementing EU Home Affairs policies.

Commissioner Brunner then travelled to Greece on 16 January, where he met with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to discuss migration management, the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, and integration of non-EU nationals. He also met with various Greek ministers to exchange views on EU-Greece-Türkiye cooperation, fundamental rights, border management, and Schengen evaluation recommendations.

The following day, Commissioner Brunner visited Cyprus, meeting with the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Marios Hartsiotis, to discuss the effective returns of non-EU nationals who do not have the right to stay in the EU. He also met with other Cypriot officials to discuss the country's Schengen aspirations, the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, and migration management priorities.

On January 20, Commissioner Brunner travelled to Paris, where he met with French Prime Minister François Bayrou and Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau. Their discussions focused on essential priorities in security and migration, including the future internal security strategy, the reinforcement of Europol's role, and the fight against terrorism and organised crime. They also discussed the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum and the upcoming Commission proposal for new legislation on returns.

Through these visits, Commissioner Brunner aims to strengthen cooperation with EU Member States, addressing key challenges in migration and home affairs, especially the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, the future EU internal security strategy, border management and the future of Schengen.
