Commission proposes to extend Interim Regulation allowing service providers to continue voluntary detection and reporting of child sexual abuse

CSA campaign - protection

On 19 December, the European Commission proposed an extension of the Interim Regulation, laying down a derogation from certain provisions of the e-Privacy Directive to combat  child sexual abuse online.

This will allow providers of certain communication services to continue voluntary detection and reporting of child sexual abuse on their services and removing of child sexual abuse material from them.

Next steps

It is now for the European Parliament and the Council to adopt this proposal.
