Call for participants: RAN Mental Health Meeting - Training mental health professionals in P/CVE

RAN HEALTH

This is an online meeting that will take place on 04 and 05 November 2021, 10.00 – 13.00 CET.

We are currently looking for suitable participants for the RAN Mental Health Working Group meeting on “Training mental health professionals in P/CVE”.

Background

Supporting mental health practitioners in the field of P/CVE is essential. However, a transfer of knowledge from expert practitioners to practitioners that are relatively new in this field is still lacking. A comprehensive training for these practitioners is non-existent.

Practitioners with the intent of care face different challenges during their work when it relates to P/CVE. An example of an ethical challenge is, how you, as a mental health practitioner, can responsibly share information while simultaneously maintain your integrity. Other challenges arise from the COVID-19 pandemic which increasingly made clear that the online world also plays a big role in radicalisation processes.

This insight forced mental health practitioners in P/CVE to focus more on the online world in their work as well and confronted them with a new challenge on how to navigate this online world as a mental health practitioner. Providing mental health professionals in P/CVE with the right tools and knowledge will support them to expand their expertise and overcome these challenges.

In this meeting, experts in the field of P/CVE and mental health will exchange on:

  • what knowledge is pivotal for a mental health practitioner in P/CVE (e.g. relation mental illness and radicalisation, online consults, ethics, multi-agency working and information sharing, prison  etc.).
  • which skills are important for mental health practitioners in the field of P/CVE (e.g. motivational interviewing, building trust).
  • in what setting or context  these skills are important (e.g. prison, psychiatric institution, consult at the psychologist etc.).
  • differences in needs between the various mental health professions or specialisations (e.g. child psychologists, prison psychologists, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, family counselors, etc.).
  • existing training courses/practices by exploring which elements of the training are crucial for mental health practitioners as well as what should be (further) developed or is still non-existent.

In short, the aim of this meeting is to develop guidelines on what a P/CVE – mental health training should entail.

Call for participants

We are currently looking for mental health practitioners with both experience and knowledge on mental health trainings and practices in P/CVE, and would like to share this during the meeting.

In order to find the best suited participants and to tailor the meeting content to the practitioners’ needs, we would like to ask you to fill out this survey. Could you please fill out this survey by 19 October?

We will invite participants based on this information. Please keep in mind that we only have a limited amount of places available for this online meeting to foster exchanges, so participation is not guaranteed. We will contact you on this by the end of October.

If you know other suitable participants for whom this meeting is interesting, feel free to forward the call.

If you have any further questions, contact Jordy Krasenberg,  Feline Deniz and Ceren Özkan
