On 28 and 29 November, the 9th European Migration Forum, organised by the European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), is taking place in Brussels. This year’s Forum focuses on the Pact on Migration and Asylum and how civil society can play a role in its implementation.
The discussions cover key aspects of the Pact, including the protection of fundamental rights of migrants and refugees, the new permanent solidarity mechanism and adequate reception conditions.
Other topics discussed throughout the event include the creation of closer links between asylum and return procedures and the Action Plan on Integration and Inclusion 2021-2027.
The Forum brings together more than 250 participants from civil society organisations, local and regional authorities, EU Member States, EU institutions and EU agencies (including the European Agency for Fundamental Rights and the European Union Agency for Asylum). Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson and President of European Economic and Social Committee, Oliver Röpke opened the event.
I am glad that one of my last public duties as Commissioner was to speak at the European Migration Forum, a vital platform for civil society organisations, EU Member States and policymakers to address challenges and opportunities related to migration management. Our discussions over the years always have been inspiring. Together, we can build stronger, more resilient communities, upholding our values, and ensuring that Europe remains a place of refuge and opportunity.
Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson
