Note(s)

1. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) defines a migrant worker as 'a foreigner admitted by the receiving state for the specific purpose of exercising an economic activity remunerated from within the receiving country. Their length of stay is usually restricted as is the type of employment they can hold'.
2. For the purpose of the EMN the UN definition is preferred as it is more common in literature and more comprehensive since it specifically includes those migrant workers who may currently be out of work, but had been working earlier. The Convention also includes self-employed workers.
