A part of the (national) integration programmes for migrants / third-country nationals residing legally in a host country/EU Member State which aims to convey knowledge and understanding of the fundamental values of the host country, the legal system, the residents' rights and duties, access to the labour market as well as important knowledge for everyday life which is needed to participate in society.

Note(s)

1. EU Member States use different approaches as to which information is conveyed during civic training and which categories of third-country nationals can benefit from civic training, to these belong among others: third country nationals / stateless persons with a residence permit for work /study purposes, applicants and beneficiaries of international protection. In some EU Member States participation is mandatory for certain groups of migrants.

2. There are also different practices in place in EU Member States whether civic orientation courses are for free, publicly funded, or participants have to pay on their own.

3. In the context of international protection, Art. 16 of Directive 2013/33/EU (Recast Reception Conditions Directive) allows EU Member States to organise vocational trainings for applicants as part of the access to the labour market.
