Note(s)

1. Carriers which are unable to effect the return of a third-country national whose entry is refused are liable to find means of onward transportation immediately and to bear the cost thereof, or, if immediate onward transportation is not possible, they are liable for the costs of the stay and return of the third-country nationals towards a non-Schengen state.
2. IE, although not part of the Schengen area, has expressed its wish to participate in certain aspects of the Schengen acquis, through Council Decision 2002/192/EC to participate in certain aspects of the Schengen acquis, including Art. 26 of the Schengen Convention.
