The EU Knowledge Hub in the Western Balkans supports the six Western Balkan partners—Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia—in addressing evolving security, prevention, and resilience challenges through regional cooperation, knowledge-sharing, and targeted capacity-building activities.

By bringing together policymakers, experts, civil society organisations, researchers, educators, and frontline practitioners under a shared vision, the EU Knowledge Hub strengthens regional networks and drives informed, collaborative dialogue. The Hub delivers a comprehensive suite of activities, from specialised trainings and targeted study visits to ad hoc expert meetings designed around the immediate needs of practitioners. The focus on building individual expertise and fostering regional cooperation contributes to that Western Balkan partners can exchange good practices and technical know-how, building the robust local capacities necessary to foster more resilient, secure, and inclusive societies across the Western Balkans
EU Knowledge Hub activities in the Western Balkans focus on strengthening prevention efforts, enhancing community resilience, supporting evidence-based policymaking, and improving understanding of emerging societal and security-related challenges. This includes work related to youth engagement, community resilience, digital and media literacy, prevention of radicalisation and violent extremism, online harms, social cohesion, and the impact of disinformation and polarising narratives.
Operating in a complex regional environment marked by political polarisation, declining trust in institutions, social fragmentation, and rapid technological change, the EU Knowledge Hub supports partners in identifying vulnerabilities early, improving coordination among stakeholders, and developing sustainable, locally grounded, and community-focused responses.
