A Radicalização Digital de Jovens: Análise dos Mecanismos de Influência e Vulnerabilidades

Terrorism remains one of the most pressing threats of the 21st century. The rise of the Internet has significantly amplified pre-existing dangers such as radicalisation and violent extremism. This research project aims to explore the role of the Internet—particularly social media—in the radicalisation of young individuals. Drawing on a qualitative approach with a strong bibliographic component, this study seeks to: Identify the main mechanisms of digital radicalisation highlighted by experts. The study also aims to analyse the social, emotional, and psychological factors that make certain young people vulnerable to online radicalisation. Furthermore, it seeks to examine the main types of digital content used in the online indoctrination process. Finally, the goal is togather prevention and intervention proposals suggested by specialists. It investigates how the emergence of the Internet has redefined radicalisation processes, the evolving strategies employed by Islamist terrorist groups in online recruitment, and the specific functions that social media platforms play in facilitating ideological indoctrination. Furthermore, this study addresses the psychological and social vulnerabilities exploited by extremist narratives, emphasizing the role of algorithmic amplification, misinformation, and digital culture in accelerating the pathway to radicalisation.
