Men, Masculinity and Violent Extremism

Description

Commissioned by CVE and the Swedish Gender Equality Agency (Jämy), Professor Lucas Gottzén's study at Stockholm University explores the intersection of masculinity and violent extremism, analyzing research from 2000 to 2022. Covering violent left-wing, right-wing, and Islamist extremism, the study introduces the concept of violent misogyny, highlighting how hatred toward women can drive extremist behavior. While the Swedish Security Service does not currently recognize violent misogyny as an independent extremist environment, the research underscores its significance within the broader landscape of radicalization.
