DescriptionThis article synthesises meta‑analytical evidence showing a robust association between collective narcissism and conspiracy beliefs across diverse contexts. Collective narcissism — defined as an exaggerated belief in the ingroup’s greatness coupled with a sense that its importance is under‑recognized — predicts stronger endorsement of conspiracy theories, particularly those that assign malevolent intent to specific outgroups, and to a lesser but significant degree to general conspiratorial thinking as well. The authors argue that conspiracy beliefs may serve psychological needs in narcissistic groups by providing meaning, reinforcing intergroup hostility, and justifying perceptions of threat and grievance.
