DescriptionThis conclusion paper summarises the outcomes of a November 2020 RAN C&N online expert meeting focused on understanding the role that conspiracy narratives play within violent right‑wing extremist (VRWE) and violent left‑wing extremist (VLWE) narratives. It explains that conspiracy narratives have gained prominence through social media and the COVID‑19 pandemic, and can act as catalysts for radicalisation across ideological spectrums. The meeting brought together practitioners and experts to discuss emerging narrative trends, their intersections with extremist movements, and practical ways to engage individuals exposed to such narratives. Participants also applied analytical models (e.g., GAMMMA+) to case studies such as the Great Replacement and QAnon narratives, and identified pragmatic recommendations for frontline practitioners on how to counter harmful conspiracy narratives in communication, prevention, and intervention efforts.Related topicIdeologies and Conspiracy NarrativesLinkRead the document
