Federal government strategy for extremism prevention and democracy promotion

Webinar title in the original language

Strategie der Bundesregierung zur Extremismusprävention und Demokratieförderung

Description

The German Federal Government's strategy for preventing extremism and promoting democracy was adopted by the Federal Cabinet on July 13, 2016. This first cross-departmental strategy in this area relies on joint action by the federal government, the states, municipalities, and civil society. It aims to reach the key locations for preventing extremism and promoting democracy: municipalities and districts, institutions, associations, and organizations, schools, and many other places where people are committed to strengthening democracy and defending human and civil rights. At the same time, the Federal Government intends to increase its online presence. Discussions with young people will be held everywhere, teachers, parents, and other caregivers will be supported, those wishing to leave extremist groups will be assisted, and hate speech and incitement to violence online will be countered. Extremism prevention will also be actively pursued in prisons.
