Strategic Communication
Description:
This policy brief explores how climate-related crises and environmental disruption can be exploited within extremist narratives, creating new opportunities for recruitment, misinformation and anti-democratic mobilisation. It argues that climate shocks and the confusion surrounding them may erode trust in institutions, amplify grievances and increase community vulnerability to extremist messaging across both online and offline public spheres. The report proposes that strategic communication should play a central role in prevention efforts, recommending a whole-of-society approach that counters misinformation, strengthens public trust and proactively addresses emerging narratives linking climate change, social instability and extremist propaganda.
