Description
This article analyses the threat of terrorism in the European Union (EU) framework and in Portugal. The article has three key purposes: (1) define and characterize the threat of terrorism in the EU; (2) characterize the threat in Portugal, presenting the legal counterterrorism instruments and its associated challenges and (3) analyse the debate related to the return of the foreign terrorist fighters to the EU, considering Ângela Barreto’s case – the daughter of Portuguese parents who travelled to Syria to marry the Portuguese jihadist Fábio Poças.
