EU Projects in Action

The European Critical Communication System is a major initiative to make Europe safer and better connected during emergency. It will integrate communication systems used by first responders across the EU and Schengen area, including law enforcement, firefighters and medical emergency responders.

Maritime shipping routes are one of the main gateways for illicit drugs entering Europe. The EU-funded Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre for Narcotics has been crucial in enhancing intelligence sharing on new trafficking methods and in supporting operations to counter drug trafficking.

 “Stop gangs and radicalisation of children and young people with immigrant backgrounds”. This is not just a slogan, but a real project to prevent young people (10-22-year-olds) in Finland from being involved in violence and crime and protecting them from radicalisation.  

The EU-funded project the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) and man-made disaster training in Latvia helps to train future firefighters and emergency responders to respond to emergencies faster and smarter.

EU-Patrols enables law enforcement officers from one country to partner with those of other EU countries, maintaining public order in popular tourist destinations during peak seasons and during major events. Thanks to this unique cooperation, over 550 joint patrols were carried out in 2025 alone.

Based in Malmo, Sweden, the EU-funded Group Violence Intervention builds on strong collaboration between the police, the municipality, the prison and probation service, as well as the local community. All professionals involved focus on deterring crime firmly and clearly.

The EU-funded project ISF LUMEN strengthens international cooperation between police across Europe to combat organised crime. Thanks to the project, in 2024, German police, along with European partners, prevented almost 400 crimes and EUR 4.85 million in losses related to fraudulent calls.

Led by the Council of Europe Development Bank and boosted by EUR 3.5 million under AMIF, this innovative project demonstrates how creative financing and collaboration can facilitate the integration of non-EU nationals in EU Member States, enriching the social and economic fabric of host countries.

The impact of violent extremism is most felt locally, affecting communities directly. To respond to the evolving landscape of extremism, the EU funded project icommit has developed a comprehensive toolkit strengthening stakeholder's preparedness to prevent and counter extremism on the ground.
