Justice Programme 2014-2020

The Justice Programme, which aims at contributing to the further development of a European area of justice, funds projects relating to drugs, in particular on policy coordination, judicial cooperation on drug-related issues, and new psychoactive substances. It has a budget of € 378 million.

The Internal Security Fund 2014-2020

The Internal Security Fund, which supports the implementation of the Internal Security Strategy, can provide funding for projects relating to drug supply. This includes cross-border cooperation against drug production and trafficking, and the development of innovative approaches to improve the understanding of drug markets and improve the effectiveness of drug law enforcement. It has a budget of around € 1 billion.

The Health Programme 2014-2020

The Health Programme, whose objective is to promote health, prevent diseases and foster supportive environments for healthy lifestyles, will support health-related drug projects. It has a budget of € 449.4 million.

Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020 is the EU’s Research and Innovation programme, with a budget of nearly € 80 billion. Its ‘Health, demographic change and well-being’ component will provide funding to research relevant to drugs – for instance to develop innovative approaches to assess the risks of new drugs, to treat addiction and reduce the harms caused by drugs.

How does it work?

For the union actions supported under the above programmes the Commission approves Annual Work Programmes which define the priorities and objectives for each year, including the priorities for the Calls for Proposals.

How to apply?

From June 2016, the application should be done online via a dedicated portal.

Proposals can only be submitted electronically via the Research & Innovation Participant Portal.

The potential beneficiary should register and get a Participant Identification Code (PIC).
